A great looking website is nothing if it’s painful to view on mobile. With more people browsing the web on their phones a responsive website is a must.

With the advancement of mobile technology, more people prefer browsing the internet on their phones than on their desktop computers. Without a responsive website you could be missing out on a huge pool of people that prefer looking at your competitor’s website over yours. If your website is powered by WordPress then most themes already have responsiveness built in (lucky you).

What is a Responsive Website?

Sometimes the term “responsive” also gets lumped in with “mobile friendly”, but there is a slight difference. A mobile friendly website is a site that is designed to work the exact same way across all devices. Sounds good right? Not really. A mobile friendly site might look amazing on desktop, but it may look extremely tiny on a phone.

A responsive website is one that adapts or “responds” to the type of device it is displayed on to make sure the user has the best browsing experience. In this scenario the layout of a website’s elements can move around so that text is readable and images are nicely displayed.

As you can see from the two screenshots above, the text is a lot easier to read on a responsive website. The content adjusts itself so that it allows the viewer a better browsing experience.

Other Benefits

Giving your visitors a great experience while on your site helps build trust in your brand. A nice looking website can keep visitors on your site longer and be more accessible to more people. It’s also important to note that the longer a visitor stays on your website then the more likely they are to convert into a lead or a sale.

Not only will your website be easy on the eyes, but it helps you rank higher in search results. In fact, it’s Google’s recommended design pattern. Higher search ranking leads to more clicks, and more clicks lead to more potential customers.

In this day and age having a beautiful looking website just isn’t enough. If your website isn’t responsive then it’ll be an uphill battle ranking higher up in major search engines which can definitely hinder the potential of your business.
